-First time going sledding
-First bad cold/cough (bronchiolitis)--he even lost his voice for about a day
-First time blowing bubbles in the water (during bath time) without sucking it back in! I think he's ready for more swimming lessons now!
-First time going down a steep slide without us holding onto him
Despite the fact that his face looks terrified, John attests to the fact that he had a blast and went on it again several more times!
Communication developments
Over the past month Evan's started adding complexity to his spoken language by putting words together and saying more complicated (3 syllable) words too. A few of his newest 3 syllable words are:
-Dackah Juice (pretty sure this means "Dr. Suess")
-Casadah (Jessica)
With phrases, it's been harder for me to identify things he says that are made up with two or more words that are of his own creation on the spot, versus what he's just heard us say and then repeating it. Thus, I can't quite remember what his actual first phrase was, because at first I just thought he was repeating what we said (examples of phrases he's likely just learned by repeating us saying them verbatim are indicated below with asterisks). Here are a few examples of what phrases he is saying now:
-Take a baff (Take a bath)*
-Ghaj door down (garage door down)
-Bah-oon pop (balloon pop, meaning balloon popped)
-Tuhn it off (turn it off)*
-Take it off (he likes to say "take it" when he's done with something, now he's added "off" to the end for things like blankets or clothes he doesn't want on anymore!)
Some examples of him creating his own phrases is that he is now starting to assigning me or John (or perhaps another person) to actions/words that he says. Evan also started saying his own name, but he doesn't use it to refer to himself yet. Examples:
-Bye bye Mum-mum
-Night-night Mum-mum
-Sleeping Daddy (meaning Daddy is sleeping)
-Hi Daddy (or Hi Mum-mum)! [I love this one, as he usually says it so enthusiastically when he first sees one of us after a day at work or something]
-Night Night Roxie (the cat)
Saying his name...
Evan also continues to work on saying (and counting) his numbers. When we're out and about, sometimes he'll spot a number and say it (at checkstand 13 the other day he pointed and said "three"). When we leave for a walk, he often points to our address and says "thug-teen" or "foh-teen". It's got a 1, 3, and 4 in it, so he's seeing some combination of them and rattling them off. Then he usually starts saying other numbers in random order (nine, then, sixteen, etc).
I absolutely love that we're being able to communicate with him more and more each day. He does still scream and whine a lot though, and thus I've begun to tell him I don't understand his screams and then I ask him to tell me what he wants using words. It sometimes works! :)
Having fun with friends
Over this past month Evan has also started having more opportunities to play with "frens" (aka friends). He says the names of a few of his favorite friends, like Tori and Elby (nickname for Eleanor). He also says their moms names (Jessica--see above for his pronunciation--and Julie, which is more like "doolie"). He had seen them on occasion prior to our mountain getaway, but after having spent a 4-day weekend with them, he wants to see them all the time!

He also likes to hold hands now. When he wants to take us somewhere (i.e. to get his shoes to go outside) he'll say "hand...shoes". Thus, when we suggest that he hold his friends' hands, he does so probably more willingly than they!

Evan is getting his canine (or cuspid) teeth right now. After those all come in, I think he just has one set of molars left before he'll have his full set of baby teeth! Thus, he now has a much easier time chewing food and has a smile that's much more full of teeth!

Evan is at least 26 pounds now (he was weighed when we took him to the doctor in mid-April about his bronchiolitis). He wears mostly 24 month/2T clothes. I'm thinking he may be about to outgrow his size 5 shoes, at least some of them, so I'll need to start looking for some size 6 summery shoes! We still haven't started formally potty training with him, but hopefully sometime in the next month or two we'll get around to finally getting serious about that. For now, we are just enjoying that it may finally be more springlike around here soon, and taking Evan out for walks, trips to the park, and having playtime in our own backyard. He loves being outside! He loves to jump around (and is doing great at getting a good bit of air below both his feet)! In general, he just loves to have fun, and we sure love playing with him too. Tickle wars, hiding and jumping out to surprise him (he LOVES this!), playing chase, etc...it's such a joy to have him in our life!
