Due to a combination of a lot of work travel for me, the normal hustle and bustle of the holidays, and subsequent exhaustion on my part, I have gotten way behind on my blogging. So, let's jump back a month and catch up on Thanksgiving!
We went back to Nebraska to visit my brother and his family and my mom and step-dad. We were also supposed to go to Kansas to visit my dad and family down there, but an ice storm hit and caused us to forego that part of our travel plans. Instead, we headed home a few days early, but we stopped at a hotel one night on the way back so the kids could stay in a hotel (Evan had been asking to stay in one on the way there anyway) and we also had some time in the hotel pool too.
The trip started out rocky with Evan waking up with what seemed like symptoms of a stomach bug that had been going around. So instead of leaving first thing in the morning we waited at home a few hours to see if anything progressed. We also cancelled our plans to stop for our first night at a friend's home since she was getting ready to go on a cruise and didn't want to be exposed to a potential stomach bug that could ruin her vacation (don't blame her!). That's where the talk of the hotel started, because we were leaving later than planned and thought about stopping at a hotel if we didn't want to drive too late. However, once we got on the road we were making good time and I felt like I'd rather just get there late and wake up in our final destination than have a few more hours of driving the next morning so we pushed on. That made Evan pretty disappointed, thus why when we had to change our plans coming home we decided to make a hotel stop in Sidney, NE and then we also had a nice stop in at the Cabela's there.
Anyway, for the few days we had in Nebraska with family, we first stopped at my brother's to visit them before they headed out for their Thanksgiving travel. The kids had fun playing in the backyard together and then we all went to a nice big all-you-can-eat lunch at Valentino's buffet. Yum... :) A good Lincoln original that I enjoy treating myself to when I go back.
Excited for Valentino's
On Thanksgiving Day, we enjoyed a big meal at my mom's house. We were forgot to take many pictures, but I did get one really nice one of the kids! I'm so happy that we're starting to get photos where both of them smile/look nice at the same time! :) The kids also really enjoyed petting my mom's dog Gibbs. We watched football, did some early holiday shopping online, and then prepared to head back home the next day. Since we got home early and still had some of the holiday weekend left, we were able to get our holiday decorations up. More on that next...
Love this photo!
