This summer that includes eating more dinners outside (grilling dinner more too), playing with water/going swimming, and eating lots of ice cream! While we were doing a lot of grilling earlier this summer, it just got too hot during the middle of summer to keep it up. We also played out in our backyard with Evan with his water table and a blow up swimming pool a good bit earlier, but again, we just couldn't bear being outside so much once it got to the true heat of summer. As for the ice cream, well, that may also be a pregnancy-related craving that I'm having that just happens to be best enjoyed on hot summery days. :)
So when we found out that John had today off, we decided to take Evan to a popping water fountain play area. I had wanted to take him back to the local kids activity pool, which we only made it to once this year, but it closed about two weeks ago already! Anyway, we headed down to Boulder this morning and hit up the farmer's market and then walked along Pearl Street to the pop fountain they have there.
At first Evan was pretty cautious. His fingers went straight into his mouth, and stayed there most of the time. We're starting to wonder if this is some kind of nervous habit.
Then he found out that one corner of the fountain area wasn't actually shooting up water, so he hung around there a bit and jumped around.
Then he got more curious....
...until he got it straight in the face, thanks to that curiosity. :(
So then he went back to being cautious and just ran circles around the outside of the play area....until finally he got in and got wet, thanks to John going with him and helping him out.
He especially loved it when they played "Superman" in the fountains...
And after all of that, he got pretty wet! :)
After getting him dried off, we stopped by a gelato cart and got some "ice cream" for our walk back to the car. Evan loved it, and so did I! :)
We also grilled dinner and spent time outside on our deck tonight as well. The weather was perfect. It wasn't too hot, it wasn't windy or raining (yet), and it just felt good to sit outside and enjoy summer while Evan played. We also picked some more veggies from our garden, and now I'm using some of our garden-grown zucchini to make some zucchini bread. Mmmmm....does summer really have to end?
