To kick off Evan's winter break from school (and celebrate Louise's birthday and John and my anniversary), we headed to Colorado Springs for a little getaway. There was a winter storm that had just come through so we took our time getting down there and didn't get in until about dinner time on Saturday. We found a pie shop near our hotel, that had meat pies, and got take out from there for dinner. It was yummy! It was sure cold though when we arrived...brrrr!
The first full day we had planned to go see the Manitou cliff dwellings, but due to the recent snow and ice they were closed. So we went to Manitou Springs and did some shopping instead. Despite how cold it was outside, John and the kids decided to get ice cream. Emma ate hers all by herself...she loves ice cream! Then we drove down to the Broadmoor Hotel area and went to lunch there at a British Pub called the Golden Bee. The waiter threw little embroidered bee stickers on us, which most all of them stuck the first time. It was pretty neat. We had a yummy lunch and then took a walk around the Broadmoor Hotel grounds. Very beautiful and upscale! Later that evening John and I went out to dinner at a local Italian restaurant and then caught the new Star Wars movie for our anniversary date night, while the kids stayed in the hotel with Nanna and Aunty Sarah.
Never too cold for ice cream, I guess!
Louise got fish and chips at the Golden Bee. See the bee on her shirt?
The next day was Louise's birthday. We started the day with presents, which the kids ended up helping her open. Then we took a walk through Garden of the Gods. It was a great day for a walk outside. It was still chilly, but starting to feel warmer after that big cold snap, especially in the sun. The sky was so blue and it was great for looking at the rock formations. Emma got cranky halfway through the walk and didn't want to walk anymore, so John carried her on his shoulders. After that we had lunch at a local cafe before heading back home. It was a short trip, but we had a lot of fun.
Tourists....
Happy Birthday Louise!
