Monday Marvels

1. I learned tonight that my son now occasionally calls me "Sarah", in addition to "mum mum" or "mommy", after hearing my husband call me by my first name.

2.  If Evan wants your attention, he will repeat your name over and over (and even get up in your face saying your name) until you acknowledge him.  :)

3. When Evan gets hurt, he now tell us what hurt him.  If he falls and bumps his head on the floor, he points to the floor and says "dat".  If he isn't looking where he's walking and runs into the couch, he will whine and say "dat" as he points to the couch.  And in the case he's wrestling around and playing with us and he butts his head into one of our body parts (say our nose, mouth, or knee), he will inevitably point to us and say "dat".  I have to say, it sure can make you feel bad if you think you're son is accusing you of hurting him, even when you know deep down you didn't try to make it happen.  Rather, while we mend our bumped noses, lips, and knees from his hard-headed hit, we just acknowledge that yes, it was our nose, mouth or knee that bumped into his head and caused his boo-boo.

4. Speaking of Evan getting hurt, he's definitely starting to take a lot of spills again lately.  I think this is probably due to his new sense of adventure and creativity, and desire to be a big boy.  From climbing up on the furniture (and loving to jump around while standing on the furniture, knowing he's being naughty and will get in trouble doing this), to climbing up, and especially down, the stairs on two feet, he is up to a lot of dangerous things if he's not careful.  This past weekend alone, he fell off the couch, living room arm chair, and even tumbled a few steps down the (luckily carpeted) stairs.  Amazingly, after each of these spills he didn't cry and we were probably more worried than him.  Granted, we weren't as concerned as we had been for those first falls he had as an early walker.  So either we're getting more used to what's normal/not so bad, or we're becoming complacent...let's hope it's the former.

5. We learned tonight that Evan doesn't really care for spicy foods.  Evan loves to "try" what we're eating or drinking.  He'll tell us "try try" (which sounds more like "tie tie") until we give him a sip or bite.  If it ends up being something he likes, he continues to say "try try", even though really what he means at that point is "share share".  If he doesn't like it, he just spits it out everywhere for us to pick up.  In the case of my burrito from Chipotle the other night, he ate quite a few bites from mine, but wouldn't even try John's.  However, in the case of the very same burrito from Chipotle tonight, he didn't want to try mine at all.  Rather, he wanted some of the chicken bits from John's...up until he got what must have been a spicy bite.  He spat it out, wiped his tongue incessantly with his hand, and whined until we let him gulp down water from his sippy cup (sans the sippy top).  [Note, he also likes to drink out of cups without the sippy top, but he of course pours most of it all over the place so we try to avoid that too often.]

6.  Yesterday turned out to be quite the snowstorm!  We're guessing we got about 10 inches, but it drifted quite a bit so its harder to say for sure.  So John went out to shovel and snowplow in the afternoon after it had started to die off.  He had gotten one narrow path shoveled along the sidewalk of our property when Evan started to demand going outside for a "walk".  I bundled him up good and proper again, and of course he really meant go for a walk rather than play in the snow.  For one, the snow was so deep this time that he had a hard time venturing into it.  When he did try to climb upon the "shelf" of snow, his foot sunk in deep and it freaked him out.  Plus, he just wanted to walk around the property on the sidewalk.  What was nice about the snow being so deep was it served almost like a playpen, containing him from wandering into the street or running off too far down the sidewalk.  Instead, he ventured all around the front yard on the sidewalk until it came to a dead end.
