Last weekend, Evan had a playdate! One of the mom's from my birthing class came over with her little girl, and the two kids played in Evan's playroom "together". Well, really it was more like Evan chased after Lena and wanted to play with whatever toy she had found, even if it was a toy Evan had neglected for the past umpteen times we were in the playroom. The whole time, Lena's mom and myself were reminding our children to share. At least by the end of the playdate, they were both having a ball "taking turns" going down Evan's slide, and so the playdate seemed to be an overall success.
The next day was Super Bowl Sunday. Our family was invited to a watch party at a friend's home, and there were to be a few toddlers at this party. There were plenty of toys for each of them to entertain themselves, but of course the toys that one child has always look more appealing than anything else in the toy box! Evan loves balls, so he had found a couple small versions of a soccer ball and a basketball, and he was walking around holding them, throwing them, and then retrieving them all for himself. What really made me laugh was when I saw little Tori walk up to Evan and try to get one of the balls from him. I looked over and saw my son up against a wall with both of his arms up as high as he could hold them; one holding the soccer ball and one holding the basketball, trying his best to prevent her from obtaining them. When she successfully grabbed the basketball from him, he immediately began to scold her by saying "share", "share". First of all, I had no idea Evan had picked up this new word yet (he's learning new words sooo quickly these days), but moreover I had no idea he even had an idea what it meant. Granted, I'm pretty sure his definition is that toys are supposed to be shared with him, but not the other way around! lol.
