For the past few years we've been going to a nearby Pumpkin Patch festival/carnival with the kids. Each year Evan is so excited to go. He still calls it the "Pumpkin Party", as he's done every year since our first visit. This year it truly was a party, given it was where our friends held the birthday party for their little girl. So not only did Evan and Emma get to enjoy the carnival rides, they also got birthday cake!
This year there were some new rides that Evan went on. Some were rides he suddenly expressed interest in doing (and we felt he was now big enough to do them, such as the big fire truck slide and the ferris wheel), while others were our suggestions (like the hay maze). He enjoyed it all! Emma, on the other hand, was not so sure about it all. We paid for her to go on the cars ride that Evan went on at her age, and then we made Evan go too to sit next to her. However, we had to ask for our tickets for Emma back since she didn't want to do it in the end. And, sadly, the magic of the cars ride seemed to have worn off with Evan this year. :( He's growing up.

Then on to the hay maze...Evan loved it! He ran through quickly at first following another family. Then once he lost track of them he got more lost and ran in some circles. After he finally made it out (with a hint from John), he went right back in to try it all again. After Evan started the maze, Emma seemed interested in trying it out (with John of course).

Then we took a break from the rides to do the birthday party cake and presents. It was a lovely fall decorated set up and homemade and decorated cake by Brenda!
Then back to the rides. This year there was a little rollercoaster that had never been there before. Evan kind of wanted to go, but I could see the kids getting their heads whipped back on every bump/hill. I didn't like the idea of Evan on it just yet. Rather, he really wanted to ride the ferris wheel this year and then he went into the petting zoo. We recognized the animals and it turns out it was the same exact petting zoo that had been at the Thomas event a few weeks before. While she didn't want to at first, Emma eventually wanted to go in with John and she even let a goat touch her hand while she fed it a carrot! I was so proud of her for getting over her fear there!

It was getting so hot by this time (~85 F!) that we really just wanted to hurry up and spend the rest of our tickets and get home out of the sun. We took a quick walk through the corn stalks, then found some shade while Evan jumped in a jumping castle one more time. We skipped the barrel train this year. I don't think Emma would have done it anyway. Maybe next time...

To finish our tickets we decided to get some food before we left. John suggested the shave ice, as a nice cool treat, which Evan really wanted "green on it". We got green and blue just to have some variety. It was huge, and John had already gotten the car, so there was no way Evan would finish it on his own. Therefore, I had to hold that big bowl of soupy mess in the car on the drive home and then all the kids finished it at home. Emma enjoyed it too, but it dripped down her chin a lot. The stain on her face from the blue dye of the syrup provided the evidence of that!
Evan had so much fun and really wants us to go back again this season before it's closed. We'll have to see if we have time to do it again, but hopefully it won't be such a hot day!
