This year Emma’s birthday fell on a school day, so she went
to preschool in the morning, and then I planned to take her out of wraparound
care in the afternoon and have a fun afternoon with her. John was supposed to join us too, but he got scheduled
to work at the last minute, so it ended up being a girls afternoon.
We had the house decorated a bit and all her presents set
out on the couch for when she woke up.
However, since John wasn’t there, we just let her open one gift before
school and saved the rest for later. She
opened one that included a Poppy headband, some Trolls blindbags, and Shopkins,
and a book. She was so excited about the
blindbags! Those were like a gift within
a gift, because to find out what was inside she had to open them separately.
At school, I brought mini cupcakes in and the class sang
Happy Birthday to Emma and had cupcakes. I had also brought one of Emma’s
Frozen birthday party hats leftover from her 3rd birthday party, so
she could wear a “crown” of sorts and stand out as the birthday girl. I enjoyed getting to see her in her class, and
told her that I would pick her up right after school was over to go out to
lunch.
She seemed a little bashful while the class sang Happy Birthday to her
She chose Panera for lunch and opted for their mac n cheese
and yogurt. I asked the cashier if they
do anything for birthdays, and they said they should but they don’t. As we were finishing our meal, that cashier
came by with a pumpkin decorated sugar cookie and gave it to Emma for her
birthday. It was such a nice gesture and
a nice surprise for Emma!
Then Emma and I did some shopping. She picked out a new Barbie doll daybed toy
she saw and really wanted it, and I told her that Papa had given her some cash
so if she really wanted it she could spend her birthday cash on it. So that’s exactly what she did, and she was
so excited the whole rest of the day to get home and open it and play with it.
When John got home from work, we let Emma open the rest of
her presents, and then we went out to dinner.
She had been guessing since morning time, that the big box-shaped gift
was an “easy baking oven”, since that was one thing she had asked for. She was right! She also had asked for a Moana playset, and
she was quite excited to open that up.
She also got a new sleeping bag, which she loved, and a camera like Evan
had gotten for his recent birthday, and she was also excited about that. She just loves everything these days!
For dinner, we went to Cyclhops, because she had said she
wanted quesadillas, and it was kids night there so the balloon artist was there
and they gave her a free birthday dessert there too! It was a great deal and she enjoyed it
all! She asked for a dog balloon, and
the artist made a one-of-a-kind dog balloon for her on her birthday. She was so tired that she fell asleep on the
way to dinner briefly, and so by the time we got home she was really ready for
bed. What a big day she had turning 4
years old!
