It has been so long since I've recorded all of the amazing things Emma is up to. And now, she has just turned 3 years old! Time to get an update on the books...and she's no longer a toddler! We're not starting her in preschool just yet. As we did with Evan, we'll wait and just put her in pre-K next year when she's 4. But she's definitely learning new things quickly and growing up into the cutest little girl before our eyes!
Emma and Papa
Emma is wearing size 3T clothes, and has been for most of the summer. She still had a few 2T things left, but I've fully replaced her closet with only 3T stuff now. She wears size 8 shoes, but may need to move into a 9 soon. She weighed 33 lbs 3.2 oz (73%) and was 37.8 inches tall (67%) at her 3-year check up appointment. We noticed she's getting her final set of baby teeth (her back molars) now too.
Emma has now learned her colors pretty well and is starting to recognize letters. She knows some of her shapes too. She can count to 20, but above 14 she skips roughly every other number. She is building good fine motor skills. For example, when the straps on her shoes come out of their loops, she carefully puts them back through their loops to put on her shoes. She insists on doing it herself too. She gets herself fully dressed and undressed now, though sometimes she wants or needs help.
Firsts:
--Blood draw (at our 3-year doctor check up). While she cried after getting her flu shot, she was so brave and didn't shed a tear during the blood draw!
--Ferris wheel ride at the county fair (full size ferris wheel!)

Favorites:
--Her stuffed puppy, Maya, which she takes with her everywhere and sleeps with every night, and now Maya's puppy (Mia) as well accompanies Emma and Maya everywhere.
--Playing with play doh.
--Watching YouTube kids videos reviewing/playing with play doh toys
--Playing make believe kitchen/cooking with toy kitchens.
--Books: Doggies (new for her birthday, makes lots of barking sounds!), Joey Grey's Playmates, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Baker baker cookie maker.
--TV shows/movies: Bo on the Go, Little Einsteins, Leap Frog. Frozen is still her favorite movie, though she doesn't watch it so much anymore, she loves the songs and characters.
--Foods: cookies, cake, mashed potatoes, french fries, pancakes, peach yogurt, oatmeal (still pronounces it "opy-meal"), spaghetti, watermelon, strawberries (and most fruits/berries), and she even likes some vegetables like zucchini, broccoli, corn, and asparagus! She also likes juice (any kind!).

--Playing with her "goop" (it's actually called Flarp, which is noise putty). She has learned how to make quite loud, and realistic, toot sounds with that stuff, which she and the rest of us find very funny.

Doesn't like:
--Getting in trouble or doing something wrong. She immediately starts crying when this happens.
--Other that getting in trouble, we can't hardly think of anything she doesn't really like. She doesn't finish her Eggo waffles at breakfast time anymore, so maybe she doesn't like them so much. But generally, she likes most everything.

At Evan's school "family breakfast". She actually didn't like the sausage patty very much.
She is so sweet. She loves to give me kisses and hugs. She told me one day after we went shopping "Thank you for taking me shopping" all on her own. She is great at cleaning up (and almost seems to enjoy doing it!). She'll use her kid-size broom and dust pan to clean the floor, or the swivel sweeper, or she'll help pick things up. She knows exactly where things go and always puts them back right where she found them.
She finally started pooping on the potty (in early June). This was a major accomplishment given she seemed so afraid of it during her potty training. Then by July she was fully potty trained! I mean fully...day time, night time, you name it. She is now fully diaper free and has been since early July.
Bedtime and nap time are still pretty easy. She naps every day still. At bedtime she often likes to stay up by talking to herself or us. Evan will often be passed out in his bed while she's still raring to go! She likes back scratches and tummy scratches and arm scratches (you get the picture...everything scratches!) and she likes to always ask me "Why is it bedtime?". I used to answer her, but now I just ask her the question in return and she rattles off all of the reasons why it's bedtime. It's now become part of the bedtime routine.

Some funny stories...
One day Emma walked into a 4 ft tall orange cone. She was looking back while walking until right before hitting it. Both arms and legs flung forward and wrapped around it upon impact and then she slid down it with her cheek on the cone until she was on the ground. Then, she inspected the cone with a look on her face like "what is this thing and where did it come from?" Then she cried. Probably from embarrassment and maybe a bit of fright.
The kids like to use the voice command to search for videos on You Tube Kids on the tablet and one day I overhead her saying to it "go back to the other one". LOL.
She's got a thing about showing me her messy hands for photos lately!
One day when I had both kids out shopping, I was at the check out at Kohl's putting my stuff on the counter when I looked down to see my kids on all fours sniffing each others butts. Right in front of a long line of customers waiting to check out next. That is my definition of embarrassment.
